Medical Billing and Coding (MBC) Certificate Program with Exam Preparation Options
The Medical Billing and Coding Program with Exam Preparation begins with a standard block of courses necessary to obtain the foundational knowledge needed for certification in billing and coding. Essential sciences are covered in the medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, and disease pathology modules. Once these core medical topics are covered, the program provides the learner with the knowledge and skills needed to perform diagnostic coding, using the ICD-10 coding system, and procedural coding. The participant will choose an add-on module(s) specific to the desired billing and coding certification(s) focusing on examination preparation. Upon completion of the Program, the participant will be proficient in comprehending medical records, coding diagnoses and procedures for reimbursement and research purposes, and will be prepared for the certification examination(s) that corresponds with the add on module(s).
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification through AAPC ensures proficiency in procedural coding and medical coding specific to a physician’s office. (Those who pass the exam, but do not have two years of medical coding experience are given the CPC-A designation indicating an apprentice status.)
Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) certification through AAPC demonstrates proficiency in accurate medical coding performed in outpatient hospital settings (emergency departments, outpatient clinics, surgical centers, diagnostic testing centers, and outpatient therapies. (Those who pass the exam, but do not have two years of medical coding experience are given the COC-A designation indicating an apprentice status.)
Certified Coding Association (CCA) through AHIMA demonstrates coding competency in both hospitals and physician practices. (This Program satisfies the AHIMA recommendation of a coding training program.)
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through AHIMA demonstrates mastery level skills in the specialty area for hospital based coders. (This Program satisfies the AHIMA recommendation of a coding training program.)
