The payroll portion of the program extends the students foundational knowledge of accounting to include tasks related to payroll and prepares the student for career opportunities with payroll-related functions. Fundamental bookkeeping and payroll learning is provided in the following areas: understanding foundational accounting concepts; analyzing, journalizing, and posting business transactions, including adjusting and closing entries; utilizing T accounts, the general ledger, and the general journal; demonstrating accounting for cash, sales, accounts receivable, cash receipts, purchases, accounts payable, cash payments, accruals and deferrals; preparing worksheets and financial statements; understanding payroll taxes and personnel records; performing payroll calculations related to, but not limited to wages, salary, and income taxes and preparing records and reports; analyzing and journalizing and payroll transactions; and utilizing spreadsheets for accounting. The Bookkeeping Specialist + Certification and QuickBooks Specialist + QuickBooks Certification Program incorporates a comprehensive study of the essential, foundational accounting concepts to prepare the student for bookkeeping-related career tasks and job responsibilities, including but not limited to recording financial transactions, maintaining accounting records, and preparing various financial reports. The QuickBooks portion of the program prepares the student to effectively utilize an accounting software system to perform functions related to accounting. Fundamental learning associated with bookkeeping and QuickBooks is provided in the following areas: understanding foundational accounting concepts; analyzing, journalizing, and posting business transactions, including adjusting and closing entries; utilizing T accounts, the general ledger, and the general journal; demonstrating accounting for cash, sales, accounts receivable, cash receipts, purchases, accounts payable, cash payments, accruals and deferrals; preparing worksheets and financial statements; understanding payroll taxes; performing payroll calculations and preparing records and reports; creating new company files; setting up and processing payroll; entering customer transactions, expenses, sales, income, billable time, tracking inventory, and costs; performing banking transactions and reconciliations; creating and customizing reports; entering adjustments and completing year-end procedures; and utilizing spreadsheets for accounting. The Bookkeeping Specialist + Certification and Tax Specialist + Tax Certification Program incorporates a comprehensive study of the essential, foundational accounting concepts to prepare the student for bookkeeping-related career tasks and job responsibilities, including but not limited to recording financial transactions, maintaining accounting records, and preparing various financial reports. The tax portion of the program prepares the student to complete federal tax returns through an examination of a variety of laws, procedures, and concepts related to individual income taxes. Fundamental learning linked to bookkeeping and taxation is provided in the following areas: understanding foundational accounting concepts; analyzing, journalizing, and posting business transactions, including adjusting and closing entries; utilizing T accounts, the general ledger, and the general journal; demonstrating accounting for cash, sales, accounts receivable, cash receipts, purchases, accounts payable, cash payments, accruals and deferrals; preparing worksheets and financial statements; understanding payroll taxes; performing payroll calculations and preparing records and reports; understanding foundational individual tax concepts, research, compliance, and practices; identifying and applying the tax formula for individuals, including gross income, exclusions from income, general, business, and itemized deductions, tax credits, prepayments, and AMT; and utilizing spreadsheets for accounting.
